  • Birth and Death events which take place in areas within the jurisdiction of AMC are being registered at the respective Wards under the Birth and Death Registration Act, 1969.
  • AMC has 64 election wards and each election ward has a separate Birth and Death Registration Unit. Apart from this, AMC also has two separate Birth and Death Units one at V.S. Hospital and the other at Civil Hospital which is also registered Birth and Death events taking place at those hospitals.
  • Under Birth and Death Registration Act, 1969 it has been made compulsory to register the event within 21 days of the occurrence. After that period registration is done as per the late registration procedure.

    square    From 1 month to 1 year, the event is registered by paying 5 Rs. late fee and submitting affidavit.
    square    After the 1 year, even is registered only after the court order of the first class judicial magistrate and 10 Rs.late fee is charged in that case.
  • The first copy is issued free of cost to the applicant at the concerned ward office. A citizen can get more certified laminated computerized copies from any City Civic Center after paying 50 Rs. per copy.
  • Yearly around 1, 05,000 births and around 44,000 deaths are registered in AMC.
  • There are 21 crematoria which are administered by AMC. Yearly around 26,000 bodies are cremated in these crematoria.
  • Since the year 2008, AMC is registering marriages which take place within AMC limit under the Gujarat Marriage Registration Act, 2006. Marriage is also being registered at the respective Marriage Registration Unit. There are total 64 such units, each ward having a separate registration unit.Yearly around 40,000 marriages are being registered in the AMC.
